The President of Malaysian Chess Federation, YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin launched the 21st GACC-RISDA International Inter-Varsity Chess Championship in Universiti Malaya today.
The event is organized by Universiti Malaya and Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College. A total of 104 chess players is participating in the tournament. The favorites are GM Ghosh Diptayan and IM Das Sayantan, both are from India. The participants feature two Women International Masters, WIM Nandhidhaa Pv and WIM Michelle Catherina also from India. The Chief Director for the event is Mr. Daniel Wong and the Tournament Director is Mr. David Ong of Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College.
From 19th to 24th January, 9 games will be held within the Classical Championship on a daily basis. The first round began at 9:00 am this morning.

Datuk Zahidi who also the Chairman of RISDA is officially launching the 21st GACC-RISDA International Inter-Varsity Chess Championship with a unique key replica designed by the Opening Ceremony team members - led by Mr. Ernest Yoong, a 20-year-old student of Faculty of Engineering. The President is accompanied by UM Deputy Vice Chancellor - Prof. Datuk Dr. Rohana Yusof, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nahrizul Adib Kadri and Mr. Daniel Wong Guan Xiang.
