Team Malaysia bags a Gold, two Silvers and a Bronze at Asian Schools Championship

“Cili Padi” Team Malaysia took a Gold, two Silvers and a Bronze at the 14th Asian Schools Chess Championship in Kaluthara, Sri Lanka.

Six opponents had been victimised by the 7-year-old Kavin Mohan blazing fast chess skills and he grabbed the Gold as a sole winner in the Blitz Chess Event U-07 category.

In the Rapid event, Sim Jia Ru won a Silver Medal in U-13 Girl category while Mukhriez Shah a Bronze in U-13 Open.

Sim Jia Ru brought home Master Title and another Silver

Sim Jia Ru won the Silver for Malaysia in the Main Event (Standard Chess) at the 14th Asian Schools Chess Championship.

In the final round U-13 Girl category, Sim Jia Ru beat Femil Chelladurai of India in a nerve-racking match today. Both players struggled to get an advantage but it was Jia Ru who shows that she wants it more.

The 13-year-old athlete is already rated over 1900 and as the first runner-up in this event, she has qualified herself to be awarded a Women Candidate Master by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) which will give her a WCM title.

Five athletes representing Team Malaysia and the Contingent is headed by FT,FM Sumant Subramaniam. The 14th Asian Schools Chess Championship started on the 7th of July and finished today. The Contingent is scheduled back home tomorrow.
